Small, safe, house of worship-based shelters where community, stability, and dignity come first.
We offer shelter because everyone deserves a safe place to sleep and a real chance to begin again. Many large shelters can feel overcrowded and impersonal, making it hard for people to rest, feel secure, or take the next steps toward stability. Our approach is different. We operate small, community-based shelters where guests are treated with dignity, known by name, and supported in a calm, consistent environment. With meals, on-site staff, and connections to health, housing, and social services, we help people move from immediate crisis toward longer-term stability.

Broadway Presbyterian Church
Open seven days a week from 8:30pm to 8:00am
Our shelter at Broadway Presbyterian Church provides 19 single adults each night with a safe, stable place to come indoors. Designed as a small, community-based alternative to large shelters, it offers guests a consistent environment where they can rest, feel secure, and begin to rebuild their lives.
What makes our shelter different is its consistency and depth of care. Guests are not limited to short stays -- they can remain with us for as long as it takes to regain stability. With meals, safety, and on-site support as a foundation, we work alongside each person to access healthcare, benefits, housing, and other critical services. This model allows people to move beyond immediate crisis and toward long-term stability, supported by a community that knows them by name.
We have been sheltering neighbors since the 1990s, first as part of the Emergency Shelter Network and, since February 2018, in partnership with the Manhattan Outreach Consortium (MOC). We remained open throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, providing continuous access to safe shelter during a time of heightened need.
This shelter operates through referrals from the Manhattan Outreach Consortium (MOC). We do not accept direct applications; individuals must be living on the street and not already connected to a shelter. To learn more or begin the referral process, please contact the street outreach teams of Breaking Ground, Goddard Riverside, or the Center for Urban Community Services (CUCS).
In partnership with Ansche Chesed, Broadway Community operates a small, community-based shelter serving seven single adult men. Staffed by dedicated volunteers and rooted in the life of the congregation, this site offers a quieter, more structured environment for men who are age 55+ or who are working or actively seeking full-time employment. The shelter maintains a sober setting to support stability and shared accountability.
Guests receive catered meals from the congregation along with access to showers, storage, TV, and WiFi. Each guest is also provided with a laundry card for a local laundromat. Together, these supports create a consistent and respectful environment where guests can focus on maintaining work, improving their health, and moving toward longer-term housing.
Ansche Chesed has a long history of sheltering neighbors dating back to the 1980s. Like other Emergency Shelter Network sites, the shelter closed during COVID-19 and was revived in June 2026 with support from Broadway Community. All referrals and case management are coordinated by Broadway Community.
